Puzzle 10 Collection
Description
To mark 10 years of the iconic Puzzle bag, we’re releasing 19 limited-edition re-editions of favourites from the past decade – and one celebratory new design.
In the new Confetti edition, tiny rounds of candy-coloured leather meet silver and aqua sequins in a multicoloured melange of joyful hues, hand-stitched onto the bag’s panels. Recreated from the Spring Summer 2021 precollection, the Ken Price Re-edition imagines the artist’s vision of Los Angeles as an intricate leather intarsia, while the Plumeria Re-edition is emblazoned with leather flowers inspired by quilts from our 2019 Salone del Mobile presentation.
The Fall Winter 2015 Runway Re-edition from the limited-edition Puzzle 10 collection takes us back to the bag’s womenswear debut at UNESCO House in 2015. Crafted in smooth suede and arranged in shades of pink, its geometric sections introduced a fresh approach to form, materiality, and construction, while a black suede base emphasises its uncompromising visual complexity.
One of 20 releases to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the iconic Puzzle bag, the William Morris Re-edition brings together two seemingly disparate movements – a painted hare and a cluster of flowers meet a biker jacket-inspired belt with silver eyelets and a studded shoulder strap.
Debuting in the Fall Winter 2018 collection, the Polka Re-edition features a complex intarsia of leather dots, contrasting with the geometry of the Puzzle’s hallmark pattern. The Anime Re-edition from the Spring Summer 2016 men’s collection transposes a Japanese super robot onto multi-textured panels, while a sky-high print from the Spring Summer 2017 women’s collection floats seamlessly across the Cloud Re-edition’s geometric form.
From the 1970s to the turn of the millennium, Paula’s boutique in Ibiza was the epicentre of a reverberating style revolution drenched in sun-soaked hedonism. In 2017, we began our ongoing ode to island freedom with the LOEWE Paula’s Ibiza collection, which reimagined original drawings and patterns from the store’s archive. As part of the limited-edition Puzzle 10 collection, we’ve recreated one of the first Paula’s Puzzle bags – a vibrant parrot crafted with leather intarsia and a fringed denim panel.
Our Spring Summer 2023 runway show blurred the lines between the real and the virtual. Pixelated bags and ready-to-wear put trompe-l’œil front and centre, and the bitmap pieces quickly garnered worldwide virality. The Pixel Re-edition was at the heart of this fusion of reality and virtuality, and it’s only fitting that it is part of our limited-edition Puzzle 10 collection.
Though his work intersected with Art Nouveau, the Secessionist movement and Modernism, architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh drew deeply from Scottish traditions, emphasising bold lines and botanical emblems. An ode to his legacy, the Mackintosh Re-edition Puzzle bag retains its familiar cuboid structure with the addition of an emblematic rose, reimagined as its own “puzzle” of smaller shapes. White and tan leather are outlined in thick black borders to echo the solid lead lines used in Mackintosh’s renowned stained glass compositions.
One of artist Joe Brainard’s best-known works, Untitled (Pansies), inspired a series of ebullient prints and jacquards in the Fall Winter 2021 precollection, as well as the accompanying Show in a Book – a 200-page publication dedicated to his work. With its own dedicated room at our Crafted World exhibitions in Tokyo and Shanghai, Brainard’s art returns once more for the limited-edition Puzzle 10 collection – his recurring pansy motif forms the symbolic heart of the Joe Brainard Re-edition, crafted in a blend of leather intarsia and textured suede.
The limited-edition Puzzle 10 collection celebrates the craft and creativity of some the Puzzle bag’s most iconic iterations. From the Spring Summer 2018 Runway Re-edition, featuring a winning hand of embroidered LOEWE playing cards, to the floral artworks spanning across the William De Morgan Re-edition.
