There are special seats on Korean public transportation for expectant mothers labeled ‘Priority Seating for Pregnant Women.’ According to statistics, however, the rate of actual use of this special seating by pregnant women is far below what it should be. Some passengers ignore signage and sit in these areas because newly pregnant women are not noticeable. Additionally, pregnant women may feel rude requesting to other people to vacate their seats.
