Now You See Me Card Deck

Inspired by the film Now You See Me and its world of magicians, illusions, and heists, this award-winning playing card deck transforms typography and illustration into a visual performance. The project strips away traditional card motifs, positioning the anatomy and heavy geometric weight of the Franklin Gothic typeface as the central protagonist.

Each card is designed as its own optical illusion, using expressive typography to communicate themes of deception, belief, and magic. Through stretching, shearing, and intersecting letterforms, alongside illustrative elements, the design explores how type and image can visually perform and communicate meaning beyond text. From structurally deceptive court cards to subtle typographic details, the deck turns typography and illustration into an active storytelling system rather than just a visual element, showing how design can shape perception and idea.
