In 2020, treatment for a rare blood cancer finally came home. Hypomethylating agents (HMAs) are the standard of care for patients with myelodysplastic syndromes, or MDS. Before the launch of Inqovi, HMAs were only administered by injection or infusion, and only by the care of a medical professional. With a median age of over 70, MDS patients can have difficulty traveling to infusion centers. Enter Inqovi, the first HMA taken orally in the comfort of patients’ own homes. This 2020 HCP campaign launch was particularly timely with much of the country in quarantine due to COVID-19. Inqovi not only filled an unmet treatment need but helped patients to get much-needed treatment even during a pandemic.
