MAR — a typeface study

MAR (sea in Spanish) — a typeface study. The idea of the project came from a daily swimming routine with snorkel through the "coves" in Mallorca during the months of July and August in 2022. Observing the hypnotic movement of very common marine plants on the coast of the Balearic Islands, such as Neptunes Grass (Posidonia Oceanica) or Red algae (Rhodophyta), was the initial conceptual spark to develop an organic typographic study.
Through the use of artificial intelligence, each letter was created using prompts related to the fauna and flora of the Mediterranean Sea, and was later edited with digital collage techniques and manual fine adjustments of height and length to improve and evolve the design and the readability. It is a very personal work that combines a designer's passion for the sea and typographic design.
