Description
Right Guard is launching “If It’s Not Right Guard, It’s Wrong Guard,” a new campaign created in collaboration with Party Land that recasts every competing product in the deodorant aisle as “Wrong Guard.”
In a category where absurdity has become a familiar playbook and brands often compete to be the weirdest in the room, Right Guard’s campaign is deliberately simple. It puts the product, name, and efficacy message at the center, using plainspoken, unpretentious humor to make the comparison easy to understand and hard to forget.
The “If It’s Not Right Guard, It’s Wrong Guard” campaign marks Party Land’s first work for the brand since winning the assignment in a competitive national pitch against four other agencies.
Created for an audience of hard-working men who want a deodorant that works as hard as they do, the campaign treats sweat protection as a practical decision. It gives Right Guard a clear way to drive reconsideration and trial among a younger generation while staying rooted in the brand’s sweat-protection promise.
The work builds on Right Guard’s “For Men Who Sweat” positioning with a broader platform designed to close the awareness gap with younger men and establish Right Guard as their go-to antiperspirant.
“Right Guard has over six decades of brand equity, including a long history of using humor to connect with consumers. That heritage translates to very high awareness among older consumers, but almost nonexistent awareness among 18-24 year-olds,” said Peter Olson, Senior Director of Marketing, Thriving Brands. “In a category dominated by global conglomerates and high-spending startups, we knew we couldn’t just buy our way into relevance. We needed an ownable idea that could earn relevance and keep working for Right Guard over time. We collaborated with Party Land to build something simple, confident, and unexpected. ‘If It’s Not Right Guard, It’s Wrong Guard’ puts our product promise first and gives us a platform we can continue to build.
"I love it when a brand has the confidence to take on a whole category. It gives us the permission to not only come out swinging, but also make the right work instead of the expected work," said Matt Heath, co-founder and chief creative officer at Party Land.
For Party Land, the campaign reflects a belief that humor works best when it makes the product message clearer. The campaign’s writing carries that approach across five spots, with lines including, “Wrong Guard, bad. Right Guard, right,” and “Do not hire Wrong Guard. It’s so expensive. Instead, hire Right Guard.” In another spot, the voiceover says, “A working man’s life is blood, sweat and tears. But if that working man uses Right Guard, it will just be blood and tears.”
The national campaign is running across streaming TV, online video, digital, social and Reddit.
