The lead has changed: The Hyundai IONIQ 5 won the prestigious World Car of the Year for 2022. And it's a triple win, as the all-electric crossover also won the World Electric Vehicle of the Year Award, as well as the World Car Design Award.
The IONIQ 5 is the first model in Hyundai’s dedicated EV taking full advantage of a bespoke Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) architecture.
Hyundai was honored at a ceremony held at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). The award is given after the voting of an independent international jury of 102 automotive journalists from 33 countries around the world.
The World Car Award crowns the IONQI 5's first year on the market, during which the innovative battery electric vehicle (BEV) has already won numerous international accolades for its innovations, variability as well as design, pushing the boundaries of each of those categories further than any other contender.
