Famed mural artist Mauricio Ramirez painted the 53½ ft tall by 56½ ft wide mural of Giannis.

On any given day, up to hundreds of citizens from our many vibrant communities gather at the mural to share a picture on social media, and more importantly, to share their love for and connection to the city and each other.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson unveiled the mural during a community celebration and called the artwork, “a new reminder of who we are as a city and nation.”

More than 350 stories and articles about the mural have been published in 17 countries, showing the world a completely new side to Milwaukee and the good that’s here.

The mural has become a go-to space in the city for citizens of our many disparate neighborhoods and communities to come together and display their unified pride for their hometown.

Few things brought Milwaukee’s lively but disconnected communities together like the Milwaukee Bucks 2021 NBA Championship and second title run in 2022. Our collective love for Giannis Antetokounmpo and his stance on unification is helping Milwaukee break down its barriers. Nelson Schmidt used our building – located at the gateway to the heart of Milwaukee – as a canvas for a massive Giannis public art installation. It’s now a space that brings everyone from every community together sharing a sense of collective excitement, joy and civic pride – and social media selfies that show the world what a great place Milwaukee really is.
