The latest brand campaign from Carl’s Jr. and Austin-based creative agency CALLEN debuted during the Super Bowl. Leading up to the launch was a series of “leaked” internal training videos preparing employees for the burger-crazed masses expected on the upcoming Free Burger Day. The leaked footage was followed by a spot featuring an “apology” from Carl’s Jr. CMO Jennifer Tate announcing that Free Burger Day is Monday, February 12.

“A lot of brands say they want great work but aren’t willing to take the necessary risks to actually achieve it. This was not one of those times,” said Craig Allen, chief creative officer at Callen. “We presented some truly outrageous ideas and the brand team was willing to lean in at every turn. In Jennifer’s case, literally wearing a riot suit and acting in her own spots for the sake of comedy and storytelling.”

This campaign is the first Super Bowl spot from Carl’s Jr. in nearly a decade. The concept was inspired by the nearly irresistible craveability of a great-tasting burger and shows the lengths a hungry customer might go to get one.
