Black Women Are Resting
Description
2023 Clio Cannabis Grand Award Winner
'Black Women Are Resting' is much more than a YouTube film or a Zoom event- it is the start of a movement, a time capsule, and it stands as a rallying cry for a group of women who have long been overlooked and overworked.
In it's simplest form, the 10 min short film 'Black Women Are Resting' follows the first-person narrative of Calan, a creative healer & entrepreneur, as she attends her first ever luxury 420-friendly retreat to the cliffs of Negril, Jamaica.
Guided by her mentor, OG, and U.S Veteran, Peachie Wimbush-Polk, Calan discovers what it means to heal through community and cannabis.
The screening of the film on International Women's day (March 8th, 2023) reached thousands of people and 300+ people signed up for the film's screening. Directly following the screening, an informative and emotional Q&A with Calan and Peachie was held.
This is the beginning of the 'rest as resistance' movement that also champions cannabis as a medicine. Instrumental in the healing of black women, the modalities serve as preventative healthcare and a tool to heal generational trauma.
