José Carlos Fonseca (Zeca) was born in Sintra in 1970
He started his activity of painting and illustration in 1988.
When he was 19 years old (1990) he started working with DDBN&Guerreiro, where he collaborated until 1994 in accounts such as Audi, Volkswagen and McDonalds. In 1991 he began the Communication Design Course in the Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa (Lisbon Fine Arts School) and accomplished his degree in 1995. He entered Z.Publicidade as creative assistant and worked with clients such as Mercedes and Cascaishopping, among others. He then moved to EURORSCG in 1996 and became art director. He accepted the opportunity of going to Amstelveen, Holand working in Benjamens VanDoorn Euro RSCG. In 1997 he went to DMB&B and shortly after to Nova Publicidade, one of the most creative Portuguese agencies. In 1998 he went to Abrinício, also a Portuguese agency but this time connected to JWT. In 2000 he was invited to the agency MKT and to the creative direction of Creations (Lowe Lintas Group), ending the cycle of his work in Portuguese agencies.
In April 2001 he joined JWT where he has been up to the present as Art Director and working with Líber Matteucci. He worked with clients like ITP, Nestlé, Vodafone, Mazda, APAV and Lipton and achieved several awards in national and international advertising festivals: New York Festivals, El Sol, D&AD, The Portuguese Creatives Club Festival, among others. In 2003 he was guest professor in etic, escola de comunicação (communication school) for the module “Advertising Creativity” and in the same year he started collaborating with UAU productions for all the staging work of António Feio in the Villaret Theatre, which he did until 2005. Currently he also collaborates with the Just Leader magazine as cartoonist, and in different graphic projects of the NZ productions (music label), besides his activity as painter which he never gave up.
Actually he is a senior Art Director at McCann Ericksson Lisbon.
