I sure hope Giblerto dropped a fat F on this for using Brush Script, doesn't help that it's off centre either.

I sure hope Gilberto didn't.
Congrats on getting student work in to ads of the world -maybe if you ask nicely enough one of the haters above will link you to an example of some glowing work they've had published here.

...and then bigpunisher turns off his ad blocker to realize AOTW is brought to him in part by MAS. Unfortunately, most students on here aren't fortunate enough to have their tuition pay for things like front page exposure.

It's true that MAS is our partner. However I post the work of kinds of ad schools. We do have a chinese wall between operation and editorial.

Amen. Let's go one step further - how about you link us to your STUDENT BOOK. How great were your first spec ads? It's embarrassing to see so many venomous comments thrown at these guys.

Arthur, You maybe right. To translate that vintage/cheesy/bad postcard feeling, maybe i should try something other than brush script. If you have any suggestion I would like to know more. Thank you for all the criticisms, they would just help me get better. And thanks Ivan for the opportunities to see how industry people think. Cheers.

On a pedantic note, if the students had looked at the product they would never have made this ad, nor the Paris / Australia. There is no direct connection between China and the west coast of America, nor France & Australia; the Italy-Egypt one works fine, and as someone who enjoys this game, it tickles me. The same idea has recently been used here in the Netherlands to advertise Abn Amro bank's 'cross-continental' money dealings, the word-mash between different countries (sorry, can't find them online). So it's an idea that has already been shown to work, and I like the tagline. A little more study of the product, the all-important Risk board, would have helped to filter out this US/China mistake, but all in all, not bad.

I've heard of the game Risk, but I know nothing about it.

If I saw this ad in a mag or whatever, I don't think I'd know it was for a game, and I don't think the ad gets to the heart of whatever is the appeal in the game -- I don't think it would draw people in.

You might've done this already, but to get to the heart of what might draw people in did you play the game and notice what people say; see if there's anything there you can develop. If you don't get any diamonds out of what people say, you could play the game then complete the sentence: "That was a great game because..." and see where that takes you...?

It's bad. I wouldn't print this ad even as a joke .

As for the student's work concept - there is a page especially for this - it called the Forum.
'desperate times call for desperate measures' it seems.
