Boom-Tish! "You've been a great audience!"
This safety sign approach feels veeery familiar.

>>>> That's not an ad. THIS is an ad.

the problem of this campaign are the signs. without the signs and only with text it would work. with the signs it says: "you are a stupid idiot." and why should stupid idiots be interested in learning english?

Let’s do something great together.

Exactly. That’s the point.

If you can't read english, you cant read the text, so you need the signs, without the signs it doesn't advertise english lessons to non-english speakers (the target audience) so it means absolutely nothing that way.

It's only an ad.

we all know, that we cannot resist the RED BUTTON!!!
You got to push it!

When there was a button somewhere that say: "Do not push, this will destroy the planet" Then I would give it 10 minutes before someone hits it with the tought: "What would happen?"

My mom was baking cookies one day when I was four. I was helping, and proud as punch about the whole thing. She opened up the oven and went to get the oven mitts. She said "don't touch the cookie sheet, it's hot" She turned around for one second, when I had the bright idea to grab the pan of cookies from the oven. I don't remember anything. My mom says that I stood there with the pan in my hands staring down at the cookies. She screamed and told me to drop the pan. So I did. I had bandaged hands for weeks.
Would I push that button? Maybe if it was red hot and had cookies on it. LOL!

Well, me too.
Precisely because this an ad for someone who doesn't know english, i don't disagree at all with the words on the sign. If there where no words, what would the concept 'learn english' stand for??? It wouldn't make any sense. And the graphism in it doesn't show a red button, so it's not for idiots, like Esia said.

Is it an unreal situation? Yes. But it gets the message through.

I like it.

The icon used is damn stupid. Deliberately i guess.

I don´t know about you guys, but I´m laughing outloud here. You´ve got to understand the original ads came with the line in portuguese and the signs in english. That makes a whole lot of sense to me. Here in Brazil there are a lot of the products that come with instructions written in english. Most people don´t even bother trying to read them. That´s what´s so funny about this campaign. I can quite fancy this sort of situation happening. hehehehe.

the icon is clearly the problem. If a universal pictogram is placed on a sign, why would you need to learn english? The red cirlce-with-a-slash is pretty much accepted as "NO" by everyone.

Take off the icons and you've got a good campaign. Keep in the icons and you don't. Period. Comma.

totally agree. the less the "non-english speaker" understands about the sign, the better. So they feel lost like the character that pushed the button or entered the mine field. It would make the idea better.

Since the ads are targetting people who don't know english if you take out the icons they just wouldn't understand what happened or wht was written. The icons need to be there so that they can understand what happened and supose what was written. The tagline in the original language would finish the explanation. Seems to me it is just a translation problem.

Hey guys, did you notice that this campaign was made by a brazilian agency? it means people who saw the ad in a magazine, newspaper or poster don't speak english. at least they are not supposed to. I guess that's why they put the signs.

I think it is a good idea. This useless discussion seems an account people discussion. We cannot look like that. Let's focus on the idea.

Hasta! Juanito Jones
