This ad assumes all male candidates for this job are straight. That said, copy is pretty unfunny. Maybe you kiss your wife in places she's never been kissed before? Is that an example of fine copy writing?

I'm not defending the ad at all. Just here to say the kiss your wife line is taken from a classic ad.

You should maybe kiss your old advertising archives more.

they must be pretty desperate.

So the puns in this ad are 90% VW? It's so easy to notice that some sentences were just half-assedly constructed around a line. This is amateur first year student writing at best. If you are actually gonna do a copy ad for recruitment, then it must be pure lyricism. This is forced beyond measure. Sorry for being so harsh but the weakness is unbearable...

Quite really.

Well they DID SAY they needed a writer, didn't they? I don't think they've been caught out on any of the points made here.

The ad conveys "just us unassuming chaps" appealing for someone who can write like a demon. About all it needs to do. No?

That's it.

Should add " if you can write better than this you are hired!" it would make everything very clear.

because therefore it is

Re the 'kissing' line. Must be coming from 'After you get married, kiss your wife in places she's never been kissed before'

Check it out and thank you Google:'s+never+been+kissed+before&source=bl&ots=T6jD0yQ88w&sig=ddCPkXoAy9a0yVZ4Zb7Cz_3kIek&hl=nl&ei=P4CsTcLfIZDqObbz3IMK&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CCAQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=kiss%20your%20wife%20in%20places%20she's%20never%20been%20kissed%20before&f=false

IIm not defending but I think they are just trying to be sarcastic in a way. the use a line saying impossible is nothing (adidas) and just do it (nike) I mean what they are trying to say is if you can do better than this or what has already been done give us a call.

I think you guys are missing the point... the pun of the ad is they are using famous lines from other campaigns... which I think works when they are trying to hire a copy writer... basically telling the person that they need someone who can deliver lines like the ones they use in the ad...

Holy crap, you're right.

That's it.

I love this. It's a great way of advertising the need for copy -- with other peoples copy. And of course they are not creating beautiful copy.

"We need a few more skilled copywriters, as we have me, Doug, but I am really busy."

"We need a writer."

Would have been better/funner if this was intentionally riddled with spelling and grammar mistakes along with some horribly constructed sentences.

I don`t think so my friend. What u are proposing it`s maybe the oldest and most obvious idea for this kind of ad.

By the way, sorry if my english is not perfect.

It`s a good ad.

The copy talent stands in how he glued the famous advertising lines. Some of you people didn`t even recognize them, so you`re not in the target. Its a decent pun, I`d apply to it.

They need a new writer because they're rehashing lines from old ads.

They really should've said

"We're asking someone to come in to literally write and not complain about taking the fall for our editing. We're not asking you to be creative in your writing since there will be editing and tweaking as you write. We need someone more or less to take the title of our writer. It makes clients believe we're legit. Our art director is hard to manage with his poetic writing and his seniority so we're leaving it to you to handle him. As the owner of the Agency, I would not like to take on this responsibility because I just want to make money from your work and not do anything myself, aka ride horses."

OK, here's some:

small but tough: VW Polo
no lemon: some Ogilvy classic, I forget which
hello boys: wonderbra
kiss your wife in places: explained in the comments here
reassuringly expensive: some beer
the best lager in the world: another beer

aah. I'm bored with this.
