It worries me you consider her 'obese' in that photo... so how emaciated and undernourished should young women be for them to be attractive to you?

Guest
Guest's picture

Are you being sarcastic? The woman in this illustration is clearly obese. Normal weight people don't have second and third chins.

Guest
Guest's picture

I'm guessing he's referring to the linked pic of Miss Spears and not the clearly obese Barbie

Guest
Guest's picture

Given that Spears can't sing, and basically makes money on being a 10/10 on the looks department, she could lose 5 pounds or so in that picture. Tone up the mid-section a bit.

Guest
Guest's picture

Whatever, dude. Last time I checked she sold CDs and not modeling contracts.

That's a funny ad! Not that most kids are overweight...It should be considered abuse when fat parents overfeed the kids!!

Crappy idea lamely executed. D-. See me.

As if overweight children didn't already feel bad enough about themselves. Congrats assholes

Guest
Guest's picture

It's the parents that are going to be seeing the ad, not the children. At any rate, people in this country need to start worrying less about hurting feelings, and worrying more about getting fit. Call it "scared-straight" or what have you, but people need to be woken up.

Guest
Guest's picture

This is so unbelievably problematic... I'm appalled that anyone would have approved this concept. The lego men not so much, but how can you suggest that an overweight Barbie-esque figurine is a deviation from the norm when the regular Barbies are an even more unhealthy representation of the female body? Really weighted negative implications here. Horrible.

Guest
Guest's picture

I'm disgusted, and it's NOT because of the size of this Barbie. As if all we fat people do is sit around eating takeout and drinking soda. As if thin people never ever do that. Ugh! When are people going to wake up and understand weight diversity? Activity is good for everyone. Good nutrition is good for everyone. Focus on those things and forget about where your weight (or your child's) falls.

FAIL

Just another attempt to focus on what people LOOK like, not their character or moral standards they live by. This world (and I'm not just talking United States) is lacking in a population of really good people because good citizenship is not rewarded or taken notice of nearly enough.

So you're saying obesity isn't a health problem?

Obesity, in and of itself, is not the problem. Being sedentary and eating like crap all the time is the problem. If you are active and eat reasonably well and are obese, you're still probably much more healthy than 100 lb models who starve themselves and never go to the gym for fear of "bulking up." If you're living a healthy lifestyle, who cares how much you weigh? Oh, except for every movie, TV show and advertisement ever. Silly me.

Guest
Guest's picture

Amen!

Society needs to stop pushing the idea that being 6 feet tall, 100 pounds with basketball sized implants jutting out from your chest is "hot".

It's neither attractive nor healthy.

Guest
Guest's picture

How about "Keep bimbos away from your kids"? The Paris Hilton's, Nicole Richie's and Jack Ass Movie cast members etc etc etc...

Guest
Guest's picture

It's about time people (and parents) take responsiblity for the condition their body is in and stop trying to blame someone or something else.

Guest
Guest's picture

I actually look like that right now. But brunette.

Guest
Guest's picture

Where can I get this awesome Barbie--I want one!

Guest
Guest's picture

i want that doll

Guest
Guest's picture

There is nothing "normal" about that barbie. She is obviously obese and her corresponding BMI would be off the charts. There is such thing as a natural weight diversity but there is nothing natural about being so fat that your health suffers.

Guest
Guest's picture

Although this particular Barbie may advertise an unhealthy body-type so too does her emaciated sister. The Barbie type that is sold to millions of impressionable young female (and sometimes male) children is conditioning them to believe that "perfection" is what makes a person attractive and loveable. This is simply not true. Furthermore, perfection is a falacy.

Guest
Guest's picture

Okay because Barbie is such a brilliant example for little girls to aspire to ... In her regular proportions she would not be able to stand or walk on those wee feet of hers let alone hold her body upright with those breasts...do you know that she was fashioned after a sex toy in in war time Germany ?...a prostitute doll? yes that is correct... this lot of ads is totally ridiculous...

Lay off our kids...and keep your eyes on your own plate..thank you very much!!

'Spears can't sing, and basically makes money on being a 10/10 on the looks department"

What looks?

She has the facial expression of a sheep. She always looks as though she's going to drool all over herself at any moment.

She made such an ass of herself in "Fahrenheit 911".

I cannot believe what passes for "hot" these days. When did STUPID become SEXY?

Guest
Guest's picture

Notice how no one has said anything about fat Superman, but fat Barbie is a big deal? Proof women are held to higher standards than men when appearance is involved.

Also, what is up with sedentary Brazilian Barbie? She really doesn't look that bad to me... although Batman could use a workout.

Another question- what's with the attack on obese folks now? Nowadays promiscuity is being promoted... what about all the health consequences of STD's and social consequencies of babies growing up with no daddies? Lots of unhealthy things going round in the world besides burgers and fries...
