I'm afraid you're very much in the wrong, The era of "entertaining ads", how you called them, has gone with the wind (if there has ever been such era). The only reason, an advertiser is going to spending his money on an ad like this, is to sell more products or services. Of course you may achieve this goal in different ways. Image campaigns also sell. But this campaign is so week that it can only sell toothpaste in general. The Aquafresh brand gets no support whatsoever.

Mr. AdBuzzer (or big brother or wateva u r ), don't apply too much theory to advertising. This advertisement does the job it is intended to i.e. staying on top of the mind. Sales and figures will follow. And it's not 'week' it's 'weak'

Mr Nude Copy (or whoever you are or trying to be), I'm very far from applying theory here. I'm very much into practical experience of how advertising really works on a daily basis, so I can tell you I have seen many such lay-outs that are nice to look at but don't have any effect on sales figures.

first: ice cream is entertaining and has absolutely no benefit but to provide joy and capture attention. the time of ice cream is hardly over.

secondly: brand advertising doesn't sell, it flirts. it creates interest. what you are blubbering about is direct mail marketing. that shit has to sell, sell, sell. go and comp up some brochures.
