There are literally thousands of ads in here. On top of that, I see literally thousands of ads outside of this place every day. To presume (and yes, it is a presumption) that I'm going to recognize this blip on the advertising radar screen is pretty risky. A little more copy would be far better serving the readership.

I agree with ricklongo. Yes there are thousands of ads out there, however these two are well known, just flip through any awards annual and you'll come across them and been in the ad game you should be aware of what's one big out there. Nice one.

I'll take your word for it. I dont especially see this as all that memorable myself, and awards never impressed me that much, sorry (and before you ask, yes, I've won a couple myself; they're in a box in the closet, I think). It's just another in a long line of easy-target ads. We've had things around here far more recognizable.

Hmm.... Nice debate. Here's my two bit.

This ad is clearly targetted at the ad community, and specifically those inclined to creat award ads.
I think such a group will be well-versed with award winning stuff (or at least should be).

I thin these ads are really nice. I think you're off the mark here seanmartin.

how do you not recognize some of the more successful and memorable award winning ads of the past few years? i see just as many ads as anyone else but I can instantly spot something that I've seen in the past, no matter if it's good or bad. you need to take something for that memory of yours... and what kind of ad guy doesn't care for awards? what awards have you won that has made you so jaded? you must be a big shot... or not.

What kind of professional is obsessed with winning awards, grasshopper? Is that the only reason you're in this field?

Tell you what, since you think awards are so wonderful -- go back ten or fifteen years and look at what won and tell me how memorable even half of them are now. Hell, this one isnt that wonderful, sorry. It's an easy target and probably won an award not because of any great concept on its part (nor execution, for that matter), but because it was a political hot button and nothing more. I've seen this concept a dozen times in editorial cartoons in the last five years: what makes the ad so special that you think I should instantly recall it? And with all the far more brilliant work in this place, let's get real: this one was chosen *because* it's a show off hot-button piece of work. That's all.

Sorry, bud. Try again.

You sound like you're obviously in the wrong industry...if you're even in it at all. Do you remember "Think Different"? How about Helmut's Volkswagen ads. Yea, I remember them still, asshat. Just because you have no idea what the ad world revolves around doesn't mean others are as ignorant as you. Like always, talking out of your ass will surely get you called out on it.

This, *friend*, is lightyears below the "think different" ads. *Those*, if you bother to learn *anything* about advertising history, were revolutionary for the way they marketed their product, something Apple has always aspired to. The same can be said for the VW ads, which, all by themselves, took the industry and turned it 180 degrees from copy heavy to visual heavy. Both of those campaigns have earned their place because -- wait for it -- they BROKE THE DAMN MOLD. What's this doing? Nothing. It's an easy shot, easily dismissed, eminently forgettable.

Now, as for you talking out your own butt: tell me how this is some earthshaking piece of marketing. Hmm? What's that silence I suddenly hear? Maybe it's the realization that this ISNT anything new, that it ISNT as revolutionary as you dearly want it to be, and that MAYBE, just MAYBE you have NO FUCKING CLUE what you're talking about because you havent been to class yet this morning.

So yes, *bud*, I'm calling you out on this. This isnt the be-all you think it is. DEAL WITH IT. You might improve your ignorance of your own industry yet.

Although, seeing you "rikey ads", I'm doubting it.

seanmartin...you may have a personal dislike for the original campaigns, however, they did win nearly every major award out there and are recognizable to the current and up and coming who's who of the ad industry which is who this site is marketed to...the has beens may not care for them but this is the type of work thats winning at the moment and may not increase sales but they were great concepts non the less..and before you say something like only ideas that increase sales win awards...KRAP because half the ads that win awards, are spec, and run once, or not at all but are great non the less.

I dont have a "dislike" for it. I just find it incredibly pedestrian and hardly worth the awards it may have garnered. C'mon, what's so breathtaking about this? Anything? It's an easy and obvious solution stolen straight from editorial cartoons that have been running the same concept since 2002, nothing more. And like so many other "award winning" campaigns that are based on flash-in-the-pan moments, it'll be forgotten soon enough. I just find it offensive that out of all the far better work available around here, they chose something so mundane.

As for spec ads winning awards and therefore being great... sorry, bud, no. If that's the case, go into fine art. In advertising, you have a job to do -- and that's for your client. Yes, thank God we have clients willing to take creative risks that have resulted in some pretty amazing stuff, but we do this because we are commissioned by the client to do so. And the client expects it to *work* -- which is precisely why those VW ads in the 60s turned into one of the longest running campaigns in advertising history. They *worked*. I dont know how many awards they won; frankly, that's immaterial. They worked -- that's all that matters.

However, just to pursue your take that awards means great work... tell me, when was the last time the Oscar went to what was *really* the best movie of the year? And before you slap down your answer, think about what that means. I'll be curious to see your reply.

Are you serious??????? Well i care, i love knowing whats winning, where, how many its won etc (wetha i like the pieces or not) after all you are competing in the shows. You have to be aware of whats been recognized if you're in this industry. Yes you don't have to like all the work that wins awards especially if something cleans up over your own entry, its all subjective...I liked those ads and your rants wont change that..as my responses wont change your view.

You have now moved your argument to movie awards which don't interest me as much as my own line of work, been advertising, perhaps thats why i recognized these pieces. But to answer your question anyways,I (I been the operative word) loved CRASH and it cleaned up..so i guess awards do mean great work.

Are you serious??????? Well i care, i love knowing whats winning, where, how many its won etc (wetha i like the pieces or not) after all you are competing in the shows. Like you asked. If you're going to put words in my mouth and create an "argument" about issues that I haven't talked about, then ... well... kudos to your ignorance.

Getting back to my point before you lead me down your pointless ramblings again:
how the hell can you not recognize an ad that has been highly publicized and critically acclaimed in the past few years? I never once even said if I thought it was good or not and yet here you are trying to convince yourself that I am fighting for the greatness of this ad. Perhaps you need to work on your memory AND reading comprehension skills?
