Never been done - contrast a Bible with something for shock value – creative Genius. Why don't you use another Holy book? Why is it always the Bible?

You'd get your head cut off.

I am not sure what your comment means? Are you saying that even though the Bible teaches that every person will one day stand before God and give an account of their life which will result in Heaven or Hell - despite that message the Bible remains the most popular book in the world - ever published

or are you just laughing because it talks about hell?

?

Right, that is what I see when I turn on the TV - Christian suicide bombers blowing themselves up around the world - Killing innocent people for the Love of God. Thanks for clearing that up.

Get yer xenophobic head out of yer butt and *think* a bit, huh? The target market is overwhelmingly Christian, not Muslim, so sorry, but if you're using *any* holy book for shock value, wouldnt it be the one used by the *majority* of your proposed readership?

I mean, please, spare me the "theyre bashing Christians!" crap. It wont fly here, sorry.

Sean,

I never said anything about Christian Bashing. I do get sick of cliques. Show me one instance of another Holy Book on this website being thrown into a negative light.

Please don't! I would like to watch a bit more of the jihad here (or crusade if you please).

Just a sample of how religion can move the fools to holy wars. Considering we're all "creatives", imagine what could be done with some simpler minds.

What's overwhelming for me is a complete disregard of things people value as holy for so called "shocking value". Is "shock value" a category in Cannes? It's simple lack of respect and bad taste we creatives demonstrate to the public and that's bad.

Complete bullshit. Sane and level-headed people should be able to take some mockery about their lifestyle, and if they're not, that's their flaw.

I guess the so called sane people's "level" is not very high, then... Sane people mock themselves to death.

Wrong. There are more muslims than christians in Sweden. In fact, we hardly have any christians at all.

I think this ad would have been much more daring (hence better) with the Koran. Much since the political correctness of bashing christians is just too tiresome.

"probably because it's now culturally acceptable to bash Christians, but not so fashionable to bash Muslims.

just sayin'."

okay, seeing how this kicked up quite a fuss, let me just qualify why I said that.

On Christian bashing being fashionable:
Look at the mainstream US media (yes I know the ad is swede), and look at how much media is anti-Christian. "Jesus" as a name became an acceptable swear word, and self-proclaimed Antichrist superstar Marilyn Manson albums hit the Billboard charts because people buy his album. People can be openly abusive of Christianity and get cheers or a standing ovation. Look at the number of ads even on this site and you'll find work that's not so flattering (Last Supper Spoof, nuns having a wild time, etc).

On Muslim bashing being unfashionable:
Since 9/11, this has been an exceptionally sensitive topic. Most people rather not talk about it, and any such talk is frowned upon. Of course, other than overt performances such as Achmed the Terrorist (which are few and far in between), most anti-Muslim media is regarded as negative (e.g. the infamous Dutch cartoons).

On "just sayin'.":
Personally, I think either form of bashing is racist, and I'm not saying that I condone it. I don't.

It just is around, and whether you acknowledge it against the current culture is perfectly optional.

I said that comment towards a question on why a Bible is used but not something else. I could have contrasted it against the Koran, Buddhist sutras or the Cao Dai religion, etc., but it would not lessen the fact that Christian-bashing is still accepted.

Back on the topic of advertising, it's about culture. There are some things that seem 'controversial' for the purposes of being controversial, but in reality is rather safe.

Feel free to disagree with me, but I just want to state that it is not my intent to ruffle feathers, but to point out something I observed.

Cheers.
