Galaxy: The Chase

Description:

Galaxy Chocolate launched its new film, Chase, for Valentine's Day. Directed by Juan Cabral, the film provides a soulful and modern take on the classic love stories we’ve come to expect at Valentine's. It reflects the simple reality of our increasingly busy lives and the importance for us all to make time to find pleasure in the world around us. Written by Diego Oliveira and Caio Giannella the film follows Cupid in pursuit of a young woman rushing through life. Through the busy streets of London, our female protagonist hurriedly cycles through traffic, narrowly missing cupid's arrow. The breath-taking chase continues to build suspense through London's landmarks, as she continues to move too fast for the arrows to reach her; but striking others in her path. The film concludes when our heroine finally pauses in the moment and we see loves first strike. The film ends with a relevant message for today’s generation: “Rush Less. Feel More”.

At the beginning of this ad I love how it kind of has this romantic or sad feeling with the deep cello music and then out of nowhere there’s an arrow that strikes the van the girl rides her bike by. It immediately gets me to go “wait what was that?” and “how come there’s an arrow being shot at this girl riding her bike in traffic?” It also provokes questions as to why no one else is noticing, not even her. As she goes throughout her day in this big city it really keeps me on edge as to why she’s being shot at, and then the man behind her gets shot. At that point my emotion kind of goes south seeing the different people being shot until you realize at the end that it’s cupid shooting at her and at these people. Cupid is making them fall in love with each other and the chocolate they finally take time to eat. I think if this chocolate was going for a more luxury branding then they definitely achieved it because of the music and the type of “love story” they created. The only thing I would change is that the commercial doesn’t get across what the ad is for. Like at the end it has the name written in chocolate but it made me have to think a bit about what the ad was about exactly.
