this says the label is the only difference between shiner and other beer brands?!

not quite. everybody knows that it's just a koozi, so it becomes a joke that gets everyone involved. unless a heineken drinker is incredibly brand loyal, brought their own koozi, or likes warm beer; they are probably going to use a shiner koozi -- it's free. plus, it's a matter of Texan pride. even when drinking heineken, most Austinites would choose to root for the home team anyway.

before anyone asks: no, i do not work for the agency, nor did i work on this. i just live in Austin.

Brilliant. And the next comment about punk advertising sums it up. This is proper guerilla advertising and great execution. This is fun and it works.

Would work A LOT BETTER if heinekken did that. Like: "we know that Shiner is a local favorite and the pride of Austin so it's hard for you to drink something else - but our taste being so much better, it's okay to cheat. With discretion".

Incorrect. Heineken paid a boat load of bread to sponsor this thing, and the little brewery of Shiner paid peanuts for some koozies. Texans love some Shiner, and could care less about some Amsterdam canal water. Being a Texan, I appreciate this very much. I went to ACL and still have this koozie. Good job guys!

I think this works.

And not on people who drink it, but on people who see them drink it.
It is kind of like viral marketing.

People see you having a good time and drinking Shiner.

Nice!

Not terribly brilliant creatively, but a very good strategy.

There's no need to be overly creative with it, think about the target audience. It's simply and works well.

Why not just drink a Shiner? So confused? Was Heineken the only beer you could buy there, I doubt it.

Nice! I used to live in Austin and hate Heineken and how it was our only choice at ACL.
