GJP transforms into Blammo

Agency Network:
Published/Aired:
November 2010

Description

You may remember the ad I posted a couple of weeks ago announcing the closing down of award-winning Toronto advertising agency GJP and their Closing Down Liquidation Fire Sale. The sale took place last week, with $8500 being raised for charity, along with a closing party. Halfway through the closing party an announcement was made – GJP was being reinvented as Blammo Worldwide. The closing party then turned into an opening party. The closing and sale garnered a lot of national and international media attention. GJP co-founder and Chairman Alan Gee received phone calls from as far away as China on the closure. Everyone at the agency remained tight-lipped on the stunt until the reveal at the closing party.

It's a good way to relaunch. The first thing I asked when I watched the previous video is why would they close down a good business? Here is why...

This has been done by many agencies before (minus a horrible rename), including another one in Canada which won in Applied Arts Advertising Annual earlier this year http://www.appliedartsmag.com/winners_details.php?id=1426&headerName=h...

It's nice and was done many times. Not the greatest name.

Don't like the new branding (like the name though). Logo looks like an Italian fashion house.

Also, couldn't they come up with something a bit more creative to get the word out? They're an agency. How about finding interesting ways to destroy their awards, and then take $25,000 and donate it to charity. I'm not even interested in going to see what Blammo has to offer...

The gay men at the end look sympathic.

It would have been great if u hide the new logo on all the selling items, and somehow to be seen after the launch. You would have had many people having the new brand at their homes already.

Someone call the whaaaambulance for the little whiner.

The commenters on AOTW must all be intermediates and juniors. It shows.
