It was done as a print ad, but not in this interactive 3D way. Not copied. Enough of a new twist added through media and interactivity to count as an original new idea. IMO anyway. And nice ad btw.

There's a big difference between showing someone a picture of something as in the Larsen cartoon ad, and letting them experience it for themselves. The difference is the audience participation and experience. This is good.

idea first, execution second.

they stole first. so who cares of the second?

and keep that 'audience participation and experience' for the client.

idea first, if your ad is concept based.
which this ad is.
the idea is the consumer participation.
you cant' participate on paper or on the web in this same way. (well maybe you can interactively somehow or create an elaborate, super-expensive special insert print campaign)

and besides, your consumers need the participation aspect, not the clients.
what does that comment mean?

there is a second category of ads that is not "idea" based.
they rely purely on execution and they work pretty good too. (ever seen fashion ads before)
but this ad does not even come close to that category.

the scam was exposed when that rip-off won Gran Prix in Cannes few years ago.

so this makes it a rip-off of a rip-off.

This actual bus shelter is outside the agency, they lease it every year from a media company.
Then they use it for their own made up ads to make it look like the ad ran then enter the work in shows.

Neat trick don't you think.
