You have a good point but I think that the target audience in this case will definitely get it and love it. Skateboarders are not your average type of consumer.

I have to assume they meant to get a lefthand page for this so it looked like an actual jump. Unless they wanted it to be a halfpipe. Still, I think it'd read better on the top of a fold.

I really don't care one way or the other for this ad.
But I like to argue. So, here I go...
One quick glance at this ad and you see a huge flaw. And that IS the way the page is folded. Like many others, I've seen quite a few similarly executed ads before. But this is the first time I've seen the "fold" creased in the wrong way. To be able to jump that far, you really need a good vertical thrust. And you ONLY get that launching off of a "crest" (I used to surf) and NOT skiing right into the "trough." If this ad was printed on the left page, then it works perfectly, as someone already mentioned...

So, both you and Pat are wrong on this one.

It's a huge jump now, right? First the boarder runs a bit uphill and WHOOPS, takes a hyge leap of the fold... It could work the other way as well, yes it could.

Now we ALL know the laws of gravity works the opposite way in "FIN LAND." :(
I KNEW something very strange was going on up there...

I guess we interpreter this a bit different. In my view, there's a steep downhill in the pic itself and the fold only acts as a huge jump. You're saying that the paper itself is flat to start with and therefore the boarder cannot make such a big jump?

What's with this "we" business? It's YOU.
It's either you don't understand what I'm saying or you don't really SEE what you're looking at...
It's just simple laws of physics, really.
Look, there are a few others here besides me who say this ad doesn't work for the exact same reason. But you find absolutely nothing wrong with it. Terrific. Let's move on. I'm tired...

This was done for an award-winning campaign for a car insurance company in Montreal. The car "tripped" over the fold and had an accident. Way, way, way too close for comfort, sorry.

YOU said: "But I like to argue. So, here I go...". Okay, I'm not trying to argue; I rather try to understand why WE see / interpret the ad so differently. Shouldn't be tired, should understand why.

YOU said: "there are a few others here besides me who say this ad doesn't work for the exact same reason". And yet, there's at least one beside me (+ the designer). I do see your point, you don't see mine. But I still believe the ad would work this way as well.
