Meet Nate (and his dog Mana), co-owner of Wind and Waves Watersports, his family's surf shop which has been outfitting the coastalbend for over 35 years.
Nate lives in Corpus Christi, where he raves about the surfing scene and local cafes. KAYAK and Travel Texas asked him for his favorite spots - and here’s where he thinks travelers should go:
Catch the sunrise at Packery Channel Beach. Not only does Packery offer the most consistent surf break on the coast, it’s great for fishing and is a family and dog friendly beach to enjoy a full day on the coast.
Rent gear from Wind and Waves. They offer everything you need to enjoy a day on the water, including surfboards, paddle boards and kayak rentals.
Grab coffee and breakfast from Island Joes. Their coffee is roasted in house daily, it’s locally owned and a staple of the community.
Spend an evening exploring the Water Street Market area located in downtown Corpus. Home to multiple restaurants, where you can grab a casual beer and listen to music at the Executive Surf Club or sit down for dinner at The Oyster Bar.
Nate’s favorite Texas trip is to Waco, Texas. Waco is the home of Waco Surf, one of the largest inland surfing and water sports facilities in the country. They offer everything from surf lessons to water park passes.
