Creative agency secretly recruits through Photoshop

A new mockup platform saw the light of the day in Denmark just after new years. Free of charge, no watermarks and local mockups for everyone to use. For a creative, It sounded too good to be true. And it was. Because it was a trojan recruiting-horse.

Most creatives use a lot of time mocking ideas up in Photoshop. And good mockups can be hard to find. Especially for free. That’s why danish agency, Marketsquare decided to create Mockupsquare. A site with mockups for everyone, but with a hidden agenda.

When creatives all over the country started downloading the mockups, they got a new message once they opened Photoshop, Mockupsquare changed to Marketsquare. A direct recruitment ad.

“Good creatives are hard to recruit. So we had to make some noise on their turf to get their attention.” Says Magnus Breum Associate Creative Director.

The word quickly spread on LinkedIn and Instagram and the applications from creatives started to hit the inbox.

“Hey. My Creative Director just sent me a link to Mockupsquare - clearly having no idea that it’s actually a job ad from your agency. Let’s have coffee.” Was one of them.

Ulik Kepinski Rode and Louis Isaak, creatives on the project says; “Initially we got the idea because we were actually missing these mockups ourselves. So we thought; here’s an insight about the industry and a media space we all know, but have never used. We can actually benefit from that.”
